(WagerX.com) October 3, 2006 -- Here's what happened. In an effort to Prohibit Online Gambling the Republican Party (Frist) tagged on an Internet Prohibition Act onto the Port Security Bill. What does the Internet gamming industry have to do with Port Security? Apparently, they have found the time to tag on that irrelevant amendment. Don't they have more pressing matters? What about the security of our ports and transportation infrastructure? Here's what I think happened. Certain Republican party members (Frist, but not all) wanted to blind side the Port Security Bill with the internet provision at the last minute to make sure it would slip by. Who's not going to vote for more security in our ports in this political climate? No one! Who's going to stall the bill on a minor "detail" when most didn't even know it was going to be in there?
As a result many online casinos and online poker rooms are pulling their operations out of the USA. PartyPoker, PokerStars, and
The World's No.1 Online Casino & Online Poker Room - 888.com are all pulling out. Publically traded sportsbooks and casinos have taken heavy losses on the news.
The Internet Prohibition targets the finantial systems. It prohibits electronic transfers, ETF's, and credit card transactions for online gamming. Neteller has made a statement regarding its future plans to comply.
